On Friday April 29th, The Donahies Community School will be celebrating World Earth Day and Near FM will be broadcasting live from the event!
The school together with YSI, Green Schools and WorldWise Global Schools will be hosting a series of educational workshops together with fun activities to promote respect for life on the planet as well as to encourage awareness of the growing problems of air, water and soil pollution.
The celebrations will begin at 10.30 a.m. with the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Críona Ní Dhálaigh launching the publication of two cookery books, which were designed and written by students of The Donahies Community School.
As the theme for World Earth Day 2016 is ‘Trees for Life’, Dr. Michael Woods, who is a Doctor of Horticulture and a former Minister of Education, will plant a tree on the school grounds.
There will be music from Nigel Connell, The Voice of Ireland’s Finalist and there will also be 300 children from the national schools in the local community there to join in celebrating this very special occasion. The school will also be promoting ‘Fair Trade’ products with complimentary ‘Fair Trade’ refreshments for all.
Hope to see you there, or tune in to Near FM 90.3fm or online at near.ie/livestream
