Frank Harte: A Life in Song

Near FM have produced a three part documentary on Frank Harte, the Frank Harte Festival & An Góilín Traditional singing club. The series features interviews with friends & family of Frank Harte as well as capturing the intimate & unique Frank Harte Festival in September 2012.

Frank Harte was a renowned singer and song collector. He became a great exponent of the Dublin street ballad, which he preferred to sing unaccompanied and he was widely known for his distinctive singing.

He had a keen knowledge and sense of Irish history and in this series we revisit Frank giving a talk in Coolock library in 1998 to celebrate the 1798 rebellion led by Wolfe Tone. Songs he sang such as Father Murphy, Dunlavin Green & Henry Munroe were born out of this period.

The series will be officially launched by Councillor Larry O’Toole at An Góilín Traditional Singing Club in the Teachers Club on Parnell square on Friday October 18th @ 9.30pm. All are welcome to attend and it is €3 on the door. www.goilin.com

The radio series is made with the support of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland Sound & Vision Scheme.
