Awakenings

A new radio play written by Berni Dwan, broadcasting on Friday April 5th at 7pm.

Awakenings is a five-act play about tolerance, making the effort to understand other points of views when recognised in context, and strengthening rather than weakening ties when differences have been acknowledged. In Awakenings, the conflicting views around religion, popular culture, and traditional culture are played out in a care home between three generations. While there are obvious tensions, the characters do listen to each other, and this is what propels the narrative. Awakenings demonstrates the value of openness and inclusiveness, and of appreciating that everyone you meet has a back story that has shaped their personality and beliefs.

Cast and crew. Left to right:

Bairbre Ní Chaoimh (Director), Ruairí Heading (Ethan), Shauna Higgins (Sharon), Domhnall O’Donoghue (Wayne), Deirdre Monaghan (Eileen), Helen Roche (Mary), Noni Stapleton (Brigid)
