CAPTCHA – Timely storage solutions for Community Media

Every day people produce in Europe hundreds of posts for open media access and non-commercial radio and television stations. The CAPTCHA EU project we want to expand and an independent knowledge infrastructure visibility contribute. The infrastructure is intended to reflect the right to freedom of expression and ensure freedom of access to information and opinions in the long run. We want to reinforce the awareness that the availability of produced content (eg, the Internet) is an important contribution for participation in social discourse among media professionals.

Online Archive for Cultural Diversity

In the area of community media, a data pool of immense diversity is growing: In magazines and daily updated programs and events discourses on political education, cultural diversity, Europe, environment and many other areas of society are negotiated. Most of these radio and television programs are broadcast once and then we are no longer forthe public. Many of these media professionals so far is a lack of appropriate infrastructure and the specific know-how to make their contributions to make in structured and neat digital broadcast archives available over the long term . In our project, CAPTCHA (“Creative Approaches to Living Cultural Archives”), we therefore want to develop contemporary preservation strategies for community media. Media professionals and media consumers, we invite you to this process.

Living Archives

In implementing our objectives are in Halle in 2015 two workshops and a conference to take place. A manual with different approaches to use in the field of Community Media Archive documents the results of the workshops.The manual also gathered profound lyrics and best practice examples to contemporary archive practices , based on a run by the Central European University CAPTCHA study.

The research results will be discussed at the Congress at the international level. At the congress and new, are digital visualization tools, open source unveiled base which is developed by the CAPTCHA Partners Radio FRO. The visualization of large amounts of data (geo-tagging, timeline functions, etc.) show untapped ways to find data looked too. We continue to develop proposals for the first time as a speech recognition software can be used for tagging of posts.

In addition, results in a beta version of a free database tools for multimedia archives . We also initiate a discourse on the Community Care of digital records by various users and users (Crowdscourcing and crowdsourcing tagging).

Archivia 14

As part of the project CAPTCHA will take place on 6 and 7 September 2014, the Conference Archivia 14  in Linz (Austria) at the Ars Electronica festivals.The conference brings together national and European managers and those interested in science and politics and explores the precarious situation of online archives. At the interface between copyright and the public interest in free access to information online archives today with a variety of legal and cultural-economic challenges to fight. The Archivia opens with lectures, panel discussions and workshops provide a forum for current problems and possible solutions to this sensitive issue.
