This Sporting Life: The Story of Minority Sport in North Dublin

This Sporting Life is an upbeat and lively series of short documentaries which capture the excitement and dedication of minority sports people and encourages others to join in. Each programme serves as an introduction to a different minority sport practiced in Northside Dublin.

12. Tabletennis

From Sacred Heart primary school in Ballygall to the European Table Tennis Championships – an unusual path but one taken by more than a few past pupils.

Niamh Griffin talked to John Murphy about his journey, as well as other successful players like Conor Nolan and the Irish Junior Squad. I visited their training day and got to see just how fast you need to be. And Liam O Ceallaigh from Table Tennis Ireland talked about the history of Ping Pong Diplomacy and how the sport grew around Dublin.

This series is made with the support of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland’s Sound and Vision scheme.
